We are very pleased to announce the upcoming dance performance „Carpet of Time – 2673 Movements“ by Masoumeh Jalalieh and Daniel Zimmermann, which will take place with the support of eindorf on April 25 and 26 at WUK Vienna.

The dynamically evolving dance performance Carpet of Time by Masoumeh Jalalieh and Daniel Zimmermann makes the beauty of a non-hierarchical coexistence tangible through abstract movements, patterns, and sounds. Inspired by Persian carpet weaving, the technique of pattern singing, and the intricate geometry of oriental ornamentation, it connects traditional heritage with contemporary questions of perception, time, and resonance, becoming a symbol of resistance against hierarchical structures.
Jalalieh and Zimmermann move within a 9×9 grid, similar to a chessboard, to the rhythm of 40 beats per minute – a pace that evokes the heartbeat during sleep, when the body enters a state of regeneration. From simple movements and sounds, they develop increasingly complex patterns that allow boundless freedom within a limited space.

Together with the photographer, painter, and Austrian art award recipient Inge Dick, the musician and composer Christian Müller, the lighting designer Victor Duran, and the British choreographer and performer Jonathan Burrows, with special thanks for his valuable choreographic feedback, the artists create a performance that allows you to experience time and perception in a new way. Using a self-developed alphabet of movement, rhythm, and sound, a continuous, abstract narrative unfolds in the space shaped by Inge Dick’s video work Jahres Licht Weiß, revealing time as a complex, interconnected web in which past, present, and future coexist and are interconnected – beyond linear sequence, narration, or fixed hierarchy.
Carpet of Time is meant to evolve into a quiet manifesto, appearing as an artistic action in various locations and contexts, to make a powerful statement for transformation, freedom, and overcoming boundaries.

BIOs

Daniel Zimmermann
is a visual artist, dramaturge and film director. Originally trained as a wood sculptor, he works with film, installation and performance art. His work is based on a fictional actionism that is situated between visual and performance art. His projects include films that have been screened at renowned international film festivals such as the Berlinale, the International Film Festival Rotterdam and the Sundance Film Festival. He has received numerous prizes and grants for his films and art projects.

Masoumeh Jalalieh
is a Vienna-based choreographer and dancer with a background in physical theater (mime), graphic design, and illustration.
Her approach to dance is undoubtedly interwoven with her homeland Iran’s society, culture, and ritual carpet. ‘I carry my origins with me, and thus communicate myself, my country, and its people through my artistic statements.’
As a contemporary artist, she likes to research interdisciplinary codes in images, sounds, and movement. ‘The body is a complicated collection of all elements of nature, such as time, space, speed, etc. I explore those through movement. This way, I communicate my imagination using the ultimate language human beings have at their disposal.’
